Senescence is a anti-tumor regulatory cellular mechanism. In tissue culture experiments we have identified a novel regulator of this process of senescence in tumor cells. As this protein is accesable for therapeutic compounds, we believe that it represents a new potential drug target. With these proposed mouse experiments we aim to confirm our in vitro findings in vivo.
We propose to use a mouse strain called NOD-SCID as this strain is amendable for human tumor growth studies. Throughout the experiment the mice will be monitored closely to minimize the stress caused by injection of cancer cells. To throughly determine the tumor effects of the gene of interest a total of 1488 mice will be included in the study.
