The aim of the Project is to test bioactive products isolate from forestry waste on the diets of farm animals.
New feeding ingredients, produced of norwegian lignocellulosic biomass has the potential to be a sustainable feed resource with a high nutritional value. Trees represent an enormous source of lignocellulosic biomass and its extraction does not require high quality timber, poor quality (Waste from forestry industry) or wood infected by pathogen will be use for this purpose. In this serie of feeding trials, we will evaluate the effects of different bioproducts isolated from Norwegian biomass as protein source or prebiotics for newly weaned piglets. We will study their effect on growth, intestinal morphology and overall performance of piglets. The use of these ingredients in diets have been reported before, with no side effects. Therefore, no discomfort is expected due to the experimental diets. The study will include 144 weaning pigs, 48 pigs per feeding trial. The number of animals is the minimum required for statistical analyses, due to the large variation regarding intestinal health among individuals. Since the aim of the study is to evaluate effect of different feed ingredients in the diet for farm animals, it is necessary to use experimental animals. The dietary treatments will not produce any discomfort in the animals. During the trial, just one blood sample will be taken by experienced personal.
