Sea lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) infestation is one of the biggest challenges facing salmonid aquaculture. Sea lice cause significant economic losses from downgrades at market to slower growth rates, increased susceptibility to other infectious diseases and treatment costs. Global loss of production is estimated to be over 300 million USD per year (Abolofia et al., 2013).
Sea lice challenge trials require a stable supply of good quality lice from a known genetic background.
