The aim of this study is to determine the impact of brown adipose tissue activity in obesity development of mice fed different protein sources. The impact of diets based on different protein sources will be evaluated in wild-type mice and transgenic mice without the possibility to activate brown adipose tissue thermogenesis. The findings from this study will be of importance to determine the direct causative effect of brown adipose tissue activty in diet-induced obesity development of mice fed diets derived from different protein sources. 80 male C57BL/6J mice will be used, where 40 mice will be wild-type mice and 40 mice will be transgenic mice where the uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) gene is knocked out. A whole organism is necesseary in order to detect whole body metabolism involved in the development of diet induced obesity. All animal handling will be performed by experienced staff, and care is taken to minimize stress imposed on the animals. No invasive procedures are planned during the experiment. The experimental set-up is performed in order to minimize the stress of the animals and reduce animals to lowest possible number.
