Analysis of venom content and DNA in a group of Norwegian Vipera berus
The purpose of this study is to determine the content venom and DNA in a population of norwegian vipera berus (huggorm) in order to better understand the effects of these types of snake bites in domestic animals.
We request permission to obtain venom and DNA samples from 10 wild, vipera berus snakes in Norway. Venom sampling is considered to be a moderate procedure with expected benefits in this study of providing a better understanding of the effects of this type of snakebite in domestic animals and potentially in humans. Thus, enabling us to optimise treatment protocols and outcomes.
Vipera berus are necessary to determine their specific venom content, numbers will be limited to 10 and handling and sampling will be carried out by an experienced herpetologist to minimise stress to the snakes.
